About Us

Ashdowne Oil & Chemical was established in 2009 specifically to enhance the availability and supply of a range of specialist lubricant additives to the UK and Ireland lubricants market. Since then, the company has significantly increased its product range, with surfactants, resins, oleo, and optical products for industries beyond its traditional oil clientele.

Our Team

Tony Ball

Tony Ball has spent his entire career in the chemical industry, and since 1989 he has specialised in oil additives. Formerly a senior manager for a major chemicals distribution company, and then a director of a mid-sized independent, Tony is now co-owner of Ashdowne Oil & Chemical. In his spare time he follows a variety of sports, and enjoys a keen interest in politics.

David Clarke

A qualified surveyor, Dave Clarke has created various successful companies involved in construction, remediation and property. He founded Ashdowne Oil & Chemical after developing a logical solution which would vastly improve the supply of lubricant additives for one of the industry’s major players. Dave’s initiative has resulted in the business tripling in size since that “eureka moment”! Away from the company, he is a keen skier and motorcyclist.

Alex Ball

Alex Ball joined Ashdowne Oil & Chemical in 2015 to manage its operations. He studied in both Russia and the Czech Republic before living for a period in Austria, where he taught English to business leaders, private individuals and high level diplomats. Alex has a passionate interest in lacrosse, and competed in the 2014 World Championships in Denver, Colorado.

Michelle Clarke

Michelle Clarke provides Ashdowne Oil & Chemical with its highly-enviable credit control expertise, having been active in this specialist field for many years! Married to co-owner Dave Clarke, Michelle can often be seen riding pillion on his Triumph Rocket 3 to MotoGP events across Europe.

Michelle Farrell

Michelle Farrell joined Ashdowne Oil & Chemical in 2015 to manage the accounting function. She is a Chartered Accountant who trained with KPMG in London and spent time on secondment in Sydney Australia. Michelle now runs her own practice in Bromley and spends her free time looking after her young family.

James Mendeika

James Mendeika represented Ireland in the Rugby League World Cup in 2013. In October 2017, he swapped high intensity physical collision for the rigours of managing Ashdowne Oil & Chemical’s administrative activities. Despite having reached the very top in his chosen sport, James still enjoys playing golf to a distinctly lesser standard.
